New EBA gets workers smiling at Heritage Glass

Organiser Bruce Ross explained the excitement at Heritage Glass: 'Under this Union EBA, Heritage Glass workers will enjoy good wage rises over the next three years. This will protect their families from the lower-wage impact of Howard?s new unfair IR laws'.

Construction EBA rules kick in
Heritage Glass provides office partitioning for large office buildings throughout Melbourne. That means that this company falls into the construction industry. The Howard Government has been targetting the construction industry with its ABCC taskforce (see ?What?s the Drill?? below) and a special code that covers EBAs. Late last year, the Government was threatening any company that signed a union EBA that was not compliant with their IR code. The threat was that those companies would not get work on federally funded construction projects.
The Union had to go to great lengths at Heritage Glass to ensure that the EBA was compliant with the code. Now, the final agreement ensures that the Federal Government cannot lock out Heritage Glass from federally funded projects.
This is a win-win situation for the workers, as they did not have to give up any wages or conditions to achieve this.

Heritage Glass EBA key points:

  • 13% pay increase over 3 years
  • Code-compliant for Federal Government work
  • Protect workers' conditions and entitlements from unfair Work Choices laws for 3 years
  • SEET - portable Long Service leave

Don?t let Work Choices laws smash your wages and conditions
Howard?s Work Choices legislation came into effect on 28 March 2006. So if you don?t have a Union EBA on your worksite, then your pay and conditions could be smashed. A Union agreement is the only thing that can protect your family's living standards from Howard?s unfair laws.

If you haven?t got a Union EBA, call the Union today and protect your wages and conditions.
