Families come first in EBA victory

FFTS members at W Bremner glass have had a big win on hours when the Union secured an historic 36-hour EBA deal for them.

What became clear during consultation with members was that family time was the most important thing for them.

'All the issues were fully discussed with members in the lead-up to negotiations with the company. And shorter hours came high on everyone?s list,' said FFTS Organiser Bruce Ross.
While the 36-hour week was won some years ago on shopping centre construction sites, it has only become common in major commercial construction over the last few years. The domestic sector and off-site area have not enjoyed the benefits of the 36-hour week.
This new EBA will give members 26 RDOs throughout the year, giving them more time with their families.
Like the Heritage Glass EBA (see story above) the deal was also 'code compliant', so that the company will not be excluded from federally funded construction projects.
