WAGES AND CONDITIONS RESTORED

NEW COMMON RULE CONDITIONS APPLY


All employees working in the Furnishing and Glass industries are now covered by a Federal award and the conditions the which were taken away by the previous Kennett Government have now been restored .

Now that employees are covered by the federal award a phasing in period will apply on some conditions

Common rule application -Furnishing industry National award

1. Date of operation
All provision of the award with the exemption of those stipulated below come into effect from 1st January 2005 .

2. Annual leave loading
Periods of annual leave commencing on or after 31st January 2005 will now attract 171/2 % loading

3. Redundancy payments [employers with less than 15 employees ]
With respect to redundancy payments for companies with less than 15 employees ,only service on or after 1st January 2005 is to be taken into account .

4. Redundancy payments [employers with more than 15 employees]
Companies with more than 15 employees. ,Only service after 1st January2004 is to be taken into account .

5. Accident make up pay
Accident make up pay is now to apply as per the federal awards of 39 weeks in relation to any injury on or after 3rd August 2004.

These and many other conditions were removed by the Kennett government in a blatent attack on the wages and working conditions of ordinary working men and women.

Through the actions of the combined trade union movement these conditions have been won back, but members must be aware that the Howard government intends to attack your basic wages and conditions once again .

If these conditions are not restored by your employer he/she is breaking the law and is liable for prosecution .
